Looking for the best places to stay in Lagos is important, but this can be difficult if you’ve never visited the state before. This article will give you five great places to stay in Lagos.

Lagos’ commercial capital has experienced substantial growth since 2000. The population of the city is around 20 million, which makes it one of the largest cities in Africa. But is also home to friendly people

It’s also a popular tourist destination in Nigeria, situated on the southwestern coast of Nigeria. It’s a lovely place full of natural resources.

If you have been planning to migrate to Lagos for a better lifestyle, and higher salaries, but yet not getting a very little idea of where to settle, then I have got your back. In this article, I will present the top five places to live in Lagos for very little money and get real value from your investment.

When you ask people about the best places in Lagos to live, they’ll mention Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Banana Island, Lekki Phase 1, or perhaps Ikeja. But the downside of these places is they are gradually turning into commercial business areas and are no longer affordable for residents to live in.

Victoria Island, apartments are sold, leased, or rented in dollars and not Naira because of the commercialization of the area. Lekki Phase 1 is being considered commercializing in a near future, which means dollars might be the new currency of the place.

Banana Island and Ikoyi are considered the top expensive places to live in Lagos and therefore make it impossible for those who cannot afford them to consider. With all the variables mentioned here, I’m going to show you the 5 best places to live in Lagos based on my 5 years of experience living in the state.

5 Best Places To Live In Lagos Nigeria

Below are the top 5 best places you can live in Lagos state that is safe, affordable and accommodating.

    1. Lekki Phase 2

Currently, Lekki phase 2 is one of the best places to live in Lagos state. With hundreds of private and commercial estates, the area is fast developing and more affordable to acquire a home as compared to the overhyped phase 1.

Lekki phase 2 is a popular place that most people seeking apartments in Lagos do not usually consider because people outside the island only know about Lekki and do care not to know that it’s actually Lekki Phase 1 and phase 2.

It has more than times five the total land area of Phase 1, which gives you more options to decide on a specific area to live in. It has a lot of estates to choose from, with malls and recreational centers in the neighborhoods such as Lekki beach, Elegushi private beach, Alpha beach, and Atican beach resort.

It’s a quiet and private residential area with fewer commercial activities of trucks, heavy machinery, or factories. It is also one of the largest commercial areas in Lagos where you can afford a well-paid job.

It comprises comfortable places like Osapa London, Ajah, Ilaje, Chevron, Ilasan, etc. All these places have different estates built inside of them.

    2. Ikoyi

Ikoyi is the second best places to live in Lagos state. It is the most exclusive area in the city of Lagos. It is home to some of the wealthiest people in Nigeria, including senators, former military heads of state, oil tycoons, and business magnates.

Ikoyi consists mainly of residential and administrative areas and there are no major public institutions in the district. It is one of the few areas in Lagos where land is still available for sale to developers and investors, hopefully.

Some popular offices in the Ikoyi axis consist of the Ikoyi marriage registry, Ikoyi Passport Office, Lagos State Water Authority, etc.

    3. Yaba

The third best places to live in Lagos is Yaba because of the high standard of living, suitable location, and low crime rate.

It is the first and most important industrial hub in Lagos. This neighborhood is where all the foremost industries of Lagos were first established and flourished. As a result, it has been tagged as an industrial zone and has been the tech hub of all industrial activities for over one century now.

You can get any service here like banks, hospitals, and malls for your daily use. There are also hotels and restaurants available for your accommodation needs.

Both private and public schools can be found in Yaba. The University of Lagos, Lagos state university, and Lagos teaching hospital can all be found in Yaba besides other tech hubs.

    4. Ibeju Lekki

When outsiders hear Ibeju Lekki, they usually think it’s an abandoned area, less developed, etc. But in reality, Lekki Phase 1, Victoria Island where all the Ibeju Lekki of today. Besides, Ibeju Lekki’s local government has most of the best estates in Lagos state.

The roads in Ibeju Lekki are generally good for both commercial and residential purposes. However, some areas still need some improvement. Although, the Lagos state government is currently channeling wonderful resources into the area to see improvements.

The major roads are wide enough to allow free flow of traffic and they are relatively free from street hawkers, unlike other parts of Lagos State. The area is also well-lit at night because of street lights along major highways and streets.

Some of the popular estates there are Amen Estates at Eleko. It has some of the best schools too, including Lagos Business School. It’s one of the best places to live in Lagos currently. Accommodations and landed properties are also slightly cheaper and more affordable than in other places at the moment.

    5. Lagos Island

Lagos Island is the most populous of the three islands that make up Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city. It is also the most densely populated part of Nigeria, with a population of around 1,305,000 in an area of only 2.2 square miles (5.7 km²).

The wealthy elites live on the older end while the poorer masses live on the mainland end. The island has been at the center of Nigerian history since it was first settled. It was home to Nigeria’s first slave market, and it later held its first Legislative Council and Senate.

Today, it hosts both federal and state government offices and is also a major commercial hub for Nigeria. The Island is broken down into wards to manage its governance efficiently

There are many banks and financial institutions headquartered in Lagos Island.
